It’s time to leave Marina Kastela! Our home base for the last two years. At least, that’s what we thought when we set sail this day. We did not know we would be back in a week and stay another month. This day we planned to sail out, stay the night near Trogir, and in the morning head out there and be lifted out of the water.
In this episode, you’ll see us getting ready to leave the Luna Boat. When a boat is on the dock, you cannot live aboard. For many reasons, but mostly safety ones.
We moved into another catamaran, named the Cheetah. It is just the same as the Luna boat, but it looks bigger because it’s empty. It also misses a lot of features we installed on the Luna. For example, we do not have unlimited water. When we are at a marina, we can plug in the water connection in the Luna and we have unlimited water. In a normal boat, you’d have to fill up the water tanks. It’s about 800 liters of water divided over 2 tanks. But if one is empty, you’d have to manually switch to the other tank, otherwise the water pump will run dry. I also took a step back in the kitchen. Cooking on gas is not that bad, but missing a good oven, blender, coffee machine, and mixer needs some adjusting. But we managed just fine! We were so happy we could stay on this boat while the Luna went out of the water.
In this video, you also see the kids and I struggling with the plank. Because of bad weather, the plank fell down many times and I considered jumping. But in the end, I found out it would be better for me to fish it out.
When we sailed out, we stayed the night just before the harbor of Trogir. In a beautiful small bay. When it’s dark in these bays, it is really, really dark. You don’t see a thing, except small fishing boats passing by. It was a good opportunity to try out our new lights.
Hauling a boat out is always kind of unsettling because you don’t know if everything is going right. In our case, it was extra unpredictable because of the extra weight on the back. It was also very windy when the captain drove the boat into the spot.
But he did a spectacular job and so did our Luna boat.
