Automated waste tanks

Home » Blog » Automated waste tanks

As many of you might know it’s one of the frustrating jobs, especially under sail to empty the tanks. Also often forgotten ending up with overflowing Sh*t. For this reason I decided to automate this whole procedure and implement electric valves on all 4 waste exits.

These valves are hooked up to a finder relais that I can control to open/close the valves. Controlling this toggle by just a switch installed in the switch cabinet was not giving me the amount of excitement that I was looking for. This is where I installed a Yacht Devices circuit control in order to be able to switch it from the nmea bus using Czone on my MFD plotters.

Using this YDCC-04 I was able to switch 4 items in my boat by using toggles on my MFD. So sitting behind the wheel I was able to dump the tanks while offshore and underway.

In a later stage and different project I automated all of this based on level in the tanks, speed over ground, depth and distance to shore. Based on al this information my google home now tells me it will dump in 2 minutes to give me the opportunity to cancel if I don’t want it. After that valves stay open until parameters have changed that require to close again.
