Life on a boat is a dream! Sailing wherever the wind takes us, discovering picturesque towns from the sea, and maintaining a year-round tan. But amidst the beauty lie inherent dangers – weather, sea conditions, underwater hazards, and ill-intentioned individuals. It’s a constant vigilance, a delicate balance of staying calm and acting swiftly. You always have to be alert, stay calm, and act quickly.
There are our contrasting personalities again!
Personally, I’m not that brave. Staying calm is something I always consider afterward, and acting quickly results in chaos and clumsiness. Fortunately, our contrasting personalities come into play here, and I’m very grateful for this contradiction in this case. Kay always stays calm and knows exactly what to do. Combine this with his year of full-time training on board; as far as I’m concerned, you have the perfect captain.
Pilotage in!
Italy welcomes us with its exceptional charm. Each port of call demands planning – scouting marinas, assessing risks, and understanding local customs. Yet, armed with guides and apps, we navigate these challenges seamlessly.
Planning your entrance into a harbour or bay, is called your pilotage in. It;s really important to make sure you are prepared.
Monopoli
Monopoli enchants us with its rich history and vibrant atmosphere. This quaint town in Puglia, with its ancient port and labyrinthine streets, captivates our hearts.
Despite a minor setback with our laundry machine, Kay’s resourcefulness saves the day, turning chaos into order. The last day in Monopoli we had to do some laundry, because there was a lot of damage after the crossing.
Brindisi
Brindisi beckons with tales of antiquity. From its legendary Via Appia to the solemn Monument for the Italian Sailor, history comes alive in this ancient port city. Amidst exploring local markets and favorite spots, we never forget our homeschooling duties or the adventurous spirit of our children.
Guardia di Luna
Daniella and Lewis had to fly back to Holland for a few days. The boys stayed to protect the ship. And that seemed necessary, when a few drunk guys threw Luna’s lines loose. Thankfully, Kay acted fast and everything was back in control in no time. It’s a stark reminder of the vulnerability of our floating home, especially with young kids aboard.
Guardia di Luna – always vigilant, always prepared. Our journey is not just about exploring exotic locales but also safeguarding our haven amidst the unpredictable seas of life. Join us as we navigate the waters of adventure, weaving through the tapestry of Italy’s coastal wonders, and cherishing the bonds forged amidst the waves.
