This is the moment, we have been waiting for, for 2 years. This marina has been our home all this time, but now it’s time to go.
When we leave we don’t have a safe haven to turn to.
No shelter for a storm, or friends to help out when we are in trouble. From now on, it’s the 4 of us.
And we are ready.
Kastela
For the past two years, Luna has been our faithful guide, leading us through the enchanting waters of Croatia, from the shores of Greece to the edges of Italy, always returning us to the tranquil embrace of Kastela Bay. Kastela, a quaint town near Split, pulses with a maritime rhythm, and its people, seasoned sailors, have become our cherished friends. Yet, the time has come to chart a new course.
Can’t sail without sail
We had to sail out on April 8th. We extended our stay by a month because we weren’t ready. On the last day, we put up the sails. We had some help from two dear friends. As I mentioned in the vlog, we had three captains on our ship. It was a long day, especially for the only deckhand. We’re very thankful for your help, Zlatko and Marco!
Marina life
It’s comforting to have a marina berth. If something was wrong with the boat, or if there was going to be a big storm, or if we needed power or water, we always had a safe haven to go to. A spot in a marina is very expensive, especially for a catamaran, because you actually have two spots. For the extra month in April, we paid 2,500 euros. Anchoring is mostly free, but you don’t have any protection.
Hazards
This moment is really special for us because it also means that our new life is starting. Now we are nomads, going where the wind blows us. Always in a new surrounding and with nothing to lean back on. Totally dependent on ourselves. This means always staying alert. We always have to monitor the weather, the wind, and the waves. But also always be aware of our anchor. Whether we are away or asleep, there is always the risk of dragging the anchor and finding the boat on the other side of the bay, or worse, on the rocks. There is a lot of risk, but it is the ultimate form of freedom. This moment is one we have been waiting for, for 2 years.
Freedom
For us, it’s the ultimate form of freedom. As we set sail, the weight of anticipation and excitement hangs heavy in the air, mingling with the salty breeze that whispers promises of adventure. This moment, this departure from the safety of the marina, marks the beginning of a journey into the unknown, where every wave carries the possibility of triumph or trial. It’s a daring leap into the water, where the only constants are the vast expanse of the sea and the strength of our resolve. For two long years, we’ve dreamt of this moment, yearned for the day when we would cast off the lines and let the winds guide us to distant shores.
With every creak of the rigging and every flutter of the sails, we leave behind the familiar comforts of land and embrace the boundless possibilities of the open sea. This is the life we’ve chosen, the life of nomads, free spirits wandering the watery highways of the world. And as we leave Marina Kastela behind, we do so with a sense of gratitude for the memories we’ve made and a fierce determination to write new chapters in the ever-unfolding story of our lives.
